all&#8217;interno del Parco Nazionale del Pollino, l&#8217;ENEL possiede una
Centrale Termoelettrica denominata Centrale del Mercure, dismessa e inattiva
ormai da molti anni. L&#8217;Enel, il 25.9.2001, ha richiesto alla Provinci=
a di
Cosenza l&#8217;autorizzazione alla riconversione della sezione 2 della Cen=
trale
per una potenza prevista di circa 35 Mw (per altro non finalizzata alla
distribuzione in loco dell&#8217;energia prodotta) e con alimentazione a
biomasse. E questo in contrasto con il Protocollo di Intesa per le energie
rinnovabili nei parchi, sottoscritto anche dall&#8217;ENEL e dal Ministero
dell&#8217;Ambiente, che prevede per centrali analoghe una potenza massima =
di 6
Mw.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

Mercure tributario principale del Fiume Lao; la violazione della Direttiva

determinato grave turbativa e allarme nell&#8217;opinione pubblica con la
nascita di associazioni e comitati spontanei, che, con la popolazione, si
oppongono alla riapertura della Centrale per i prevedibili danni ambientali=

economici che ne deriverebbero e per i connessi rischi per la salute pubbli=
ca. Tali
preoccupazioni e allarmi appaiano del tutto fondati come dimostrato anche
dall&#8217;intervento della magistratura che ha posto sotto sequestro parte=
 del
territorio dove &egrave; allocata la centrale a causa del rinvenimento, in
zona, di siti di smaltimento illegale di rifiuti tossici e pericolosi, comp=
reso
l&#8217;amianto.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
