The hedgehog

Born in 1997 ,  our group of enthusiasts whose name is  “the hedgehog” has been campaigning throughout these years  in defence of the surrounding  environment.
We have succeeded so far,  with the help of the local population, against the construction of  an incinerator in  the Cosenza province ands against  electric power plants of  no necessity, (Calabria already produces energy and exports  its surplus).
The area where we live is under  attack from those administrators and politicians who have decided  its economic, social,environmental collapse.
Recently  we are promoting a campaign against the  riusing an old electric power plant of 45 MW situated in the largest European national park: The Pollino (southern Italy).
Italian experts and scientists  who were asked a point of view about the plant  have just pointed out  the absolutely illegal procedures  in permitting  its  working.
But the most striking thing is that  this is the territory of the otter  whose footprints and spraints  have been found.
By capturing  water from the two rivers flowing nearby, the electric power plant seriously menaces its habitat.
We make  an urgent appeal to every one, every association, or group who are heartily interested  in the conservation of the otter population in our territories  as  highly sensitive  to any form of disturbance, pollution and habitat destruction.
In our experience it is only when natural wealth has been secured  that sustainable human development rapidly and inevitably follows.
